Biography of Prof. Dr. Dawood Abdulmalek Yahya AL-Hidabi
Professor of Education at the International Islamic University Malaysia
Director of the International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU)
Prof. AL-Hidabi got his first degree in Physics (BSc & Ed) in 1977), Sanaa University, Yemen. He studied his P.G.C.E in teaching Physics, MEd, and PhD (Education) in the UK (1980-1986). He works at Sanaa University (1987-2015). He was the founding president of the University of Science and Technology, Yemen (1994-2007). He published more than 140 papers, supervised more than 150 master and PhD theses and co-authored several textbooks. Currently, he is the Editor-in-Chief of three academic journals. Al-Hidabi is a member of the advisory boards and reviewer for several national, and international journals in education. Prof. AL-Hidabi, became a Professor of Education at IIUM, Malaysia in 2016–now. He also worked as an Assistant to the Deputy Rector of IIUM for Internationalization. He is the Director of the International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU), at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He is also the Chairman of the Islamic Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of the Federation of Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) which is hosted by IIUM. He engaged in consultancy and training for national, and international organizations such as ministries of education and higher education, World Bank, UNESCO, UNICEF, ISESCO, OIC, IIIT, and others. His areas of interest are Curriculum and Instruction, Quality and Governance, Integration of Knowledge, Strategic Planning, Higher Education Leadership and Universities’ Auditing and Performance Development.
Biography of Associate Professor Dr Abdul Shakour Preece
Associate Professor Dr Abdul Shakour Preece has been a lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for 28 years. He holds a PhD in Education and joined the Kulliyah of Education (KoED) in 2011, where his area of specialisation is Curriculum and Instruction. He has experience of teaching various subjects at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. His interests include ELT, Hikmah pedagogy, Educational technology and Differentiated Instruction and is currently working on developing educational materials using blended-learning and instructional technology to promote independent learning and high order thinking towards making teaching and learning more learner centred, engaging and fun.
Biography of Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ahmed Zafar
He holds a PhD from the University of Michigan, USA, specializing in Teacher Preparation and Educational Supervision, 1402 AH. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty of Education, Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and is retired. He served as the Secretary General of the International Islamic Educational Organization, Makkah, a branch of the Muslim World League, for four years (1422 AH). Currently, he is the Chairman of the Advisory Council for the International Center for Educational Excellence, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Biography of Associate Professor Doctor Ismail Hussein Amzat
Associate Professor of Education at the International Islamic University Malaysia
Ismail Hussein Amzat is an associate professor at the Department of Social Sciences and Educational Leadership, International Islamic University Malaysia. He was a senior visiting lecturer at the School of Education, Universiti Utara Malaysia, and a visiting assistant professor at the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He is an editor of the following books: “Fast Forwarding Higher Education Institutions for Global Challenges: Perspectives and Approaches” by Springer, 2016; “Teacher Empowerment towards Professional Development & Practices: Perspectives across Borders” by Springer, 2017; “Teacher Professional Knowledge and Development for Reflective & Inclusive Practices” by Routledge, 2017; Predictive Models for Educational Leadership and Practices by IGI Global, 2019; and “Supporting Modern Teaching in Islamic Schools: Pedagogical Best Practices for Teachers” by Routledge, 2023. His forthcoming edited book titled “Handbook of Teachers’ Voices in the Global South: Wellbeing, Development & Identity” will be published in 2025 by Springer. And a special edition editor for the American leading journal of Education Administration Quarterly (EAQ) on Educational Leadership and Knowledge from the Global South: What have Western Educators been missing?” 2025. In 2024 and 2022, Amzat was awarded one of the 30 research contributors to IIUM’s research performance, and in 2021, he was one of the 50 top contributors to IIUM’s research performance and the highest top researcher of joint publications for IIUM. He has supervised and graduated more than 20 Ph.D. students, both English and Arabic. He is the current managing editor for IIUM’s journal of educational studies.
